Alinghi Wins Louis Vuitton Act Seven Overall BMW Oracle Leads in Points among the Challengers Alinghi Wins in Tiebreaker Racing Cancelled for Day 3 From AmericasCup.com: "Light winds and thick fog have forced the cancellation of the final race of the Malmö-Skåne Louis Vuitton Act 7 this afternoon. At 13:00 Principal Race Officer Peter Reggio issued the cancellation. Alinghi and BMW Oracle Racing share top position with identical scores of 1, 2, 4 after three races, but the Swiss Defender, Alinghi, wins the regatta on tiebreak by virtue of having the better score (a victory) in the last race sailed. Luna Rossa in third, Emirates Team New Zealand in fourth and Desafío Español in fifth round out the top of the table." Racing in
Malmö is now complete and the boats and crews will head to Trapani, Italy,
to prepare for Acts 8 & 9. |

Standings Tight at Top After
Day 2 The wind was still blowing 7 to 8 knots for the beginning of the second race, but it soon built to 14 knots and shifted slightly to the left. Luna Rossa charged across the top of the fleet from the left-hand side and the Italians were leading from Alinghi for the next lap. Then the Italian genoa broke and the Swiss pounced as the Italians fought to replace the shredded sail. Luna Rossa recovered quickly, but Alinghi won the race comfortably. The results leave Alinghi and BMW ORACLE Racing with identical scorlines at the top of the table. Luna Rossa, Emirates Team New Zealand and Desafío Español are in touch, but will struggle to overhaul both leaders. |
