Dates and times are Auckland local time (New Zealand Time/GMT+13), which is one day ahead of the US. The listed times are for the Warning Signal, with the Starting Gun three minutes later. Actual times may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and other factors, at the Race Director's direction.
Two races are intended each race day, unless otherwise announced. Races are intended to be approximately 25-30 minutes long, and there is a time limit of 45 minutes per race. Where two races per day are held, the second race will be set to start at least 25 minutes after the end of the first race.
The "Best of 9" and "Best of 13" descriptions are nominal; the winner is actually determined by points earned, 1 point per race win.
Races indicated with an asterisk (*) are to be sailed only if needed. Races 5-7 of the Prada Cup Semi-Finals, Races 8-13 of Prada Cup Final, and Races 8-13 of the America's Cup Match will be sailed only as needed to decide the match winner.
Races indicated with double asterisks (**) are races that were ultimately not needed to decide the match.
Races with a single dagger symbol (†) were races USA was unable to start, the so-called ghost races. ITA or GBR was required to start those races in order to record a win and earn points.
Races with a double-dagger (‡) were unnecessary in the Rounds Robin after GBR clinched the top finish, and GBR/ITA elected not to sail those races.
Reserve Days, Schedule Adjustments, and Tie-Breaks
A "Reserve Day" may be used by for racing to keep the series on schedule if a previous race was not completed as planned. The Race Director makes this decision in consultation with the competitors. Some days have specific criteria per the official documents:
Prada Cup:
Feb 17:
Racing on Feb 17 was postponed due to Covid Level 3 Notice being declared in Auckland.
Racing resumed Saturday, Feb 20.
Notes:
Note 1)
Feb 16 may be used as a Race Day if the stage is behind schedule after Feb 13-14.
Note 2)
Friday Feb 19 will not be used as a Race Day if the Race Director expects the day is not needed to complete the Prada Cup Final over the weekend of the Feb 20-21. As an option, the 19th may also consist of a single race.
Note 3)
a) If the Prada Cup Final is not completed on the 21st, then racing will be held every day through the 24th until the Final is decided (per Prada Cup Conditions).
b) If no competitor has reached seven points through the 24th, the winner shall be the competitor with the highest number of points. (RRSAC, A2.3(b))
c) If on the last two reserve days of the Final, Feb 23rd and 24th, one competitor leads the series by a greater number of points than there are races remaining, then that competitor will win the series and the remaining races will not be sailed. (per Prada Cup Conditions)
d) If the competitors are tied after the final scheduled day, the tie-break winner will be the winner of the most recent race. (RRSAC, A3.2(a)(1))
e) If on the final scheduled day there is a tie before the first race, there will be only one race. (per Prada Cup Conditions)
f) These conditions apply only in the Prada Cup.
America's Cup:
March 6-7:
Covid Alert Level 3 in Auckland was announced Feb 28, to last seven days. The first weekend of racing, March 6th and 7th, was postponed. It was announced on March 5 that with a reduction to Alert Level 2 or lower expected on Sunday, March 7, racing would begin March 10, and follow the previously agreed days, unless the contestants agree to any further changes. This means that racing from March 12 onward will be continuous unless the two competitors can agree otherwise.
March 14:
Racing on Sunday, March 14, was postponed due to light wind.
March 16:
The second race on March 16th was postponed as wind shift did not allow a course to be set before time ran out.
Notes:
Note 4)
March 9 may be used as a Race Day if the Match is behind schedule after March 6-7.
Note 5)
March 12 will not be used as a Race Day if the Regatta Director expects that the day is not required to complete the Match over the weekend of March 13-14. As an option, the 12th may also consist of a single race. (Update, with the late start to the match, these schedule adjustments are not likely.)
Note 6)
If the Match is not completed March 14, then racing will continue every day from March 15 onward until completion. A competitor must win 7 points to win the match. No tie-break applies in the America's Cup Match.
