Note, December 14: The City's proposal officially changed in early December to the Northern Waterfront Alternative, and, though this plan is representative of the overall program, most of the above locations are no longer under consideration for a America's Cup role with the exception of Seawall Lot 330 and Piers 26, 28, and 30-32. The above image is based on information in the Host City Agreement documents as by the City of San Francisco and Golden Gate YC on November 9, 2010. It provides a preview of the scope and locations for the improvements intended for the America's Cup Village if San Francisco is selected as the venue for GGYC to defend the America's Cup in 2013. Some of the designations, it must be noted, represent only working assumptions and the details are subject to change within the restrictions of the agreement. The city may also pursue approvals for alternate sites north of the Ferry Building and south of Pier 39. Downtown San Francisco is to the lower left of the image, the Bay Bridge is at left, the top of the image is roughly to the east. AT&T Park, the baseball stadium of the San Francisco Giants, is just to the right of center. The majority of public activities would take place on Piers 30/32, which hosts attractions and entertainment, and on Pier 50 where the teams would be based. A Promenade, the winding green line in the image above, would connect the various locations. Not seen in this photo, just out of frame to the right (south), Pier 54 would be the site of a Youth Sailing Center. Further south on Pier 80 would be facilities to support USA 17, BMW Oracle's America's Cup winning trimaran, with mooring space adjacent, implying that the incredible boat may sail again, this time in San Francisco Bay. Pier 80 could also host 2011 and 2012 regattas while major construction is taking place on the other piers. Other spectator sites within the city that might be prime live viewing locations, depending on the particular race course layout in use, could also be incorporated into the event plan. Specifically mentioned as possibilities are Treasure Island/Yerba Buena Island, Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, Crissy Field, the Marina Green, and the Marin headlands. The agreement is subject now to approval from
the city Board of Supervisors, likely to be heard on December 8,
preceded by committee discussions starting around December 1, and
GGYC will weigh the proposal from SF against an offer from an
undisclosed city in Italy before making their final decision on
