AC45 #1, the prototype of the new multihull class, capsized on February 21 with sailors on board from Artemis Racing.  Nobody was injured, but the trailing elements of the wing were detached, and the photo at left shows the visible damage to the covering fabric.

Said Paul Cayard, CEO, Artemis Racing: "It wasn't even a spectacular wipeout at 30 knots.  Rather they were sitting head to wind, taking a break after the three-hour training session and repairing something on the roller furler.  The boat got hit with a gust from about 10 degrees off to one side and the boat slowly rolled over.  No one was hurt and the boat was back at the dock within two hours."

After being assisted by a chase boat, the righted AC45 was able to return to the dock with the diminished rig under its own power (See photo at NZ Herald).  The main structure is said to be intact, and inspections are being done to determine the extent of damage, but the boat is expected to be sailing again shortly.
